Bearing ("we", "us") helps you understand your health data — lab results and, if you choose, metrics from Apple Health on iOS or Health Connect on Android. This data is personal and sensitive, so how we handle it matters. This policy explains what we collect, how it is used, who processes it on our behalf, and the control you have over it. We do not sell your data, and we never use your health data for advertising.
We do not use your health data for advertising or marketing, and we do not sell it.
When you upload or paste a lab report, its contents are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), to read the document and extract the individual values so you do not have to type them in. Anthropic also generates the plain-language explanations shown in the app, based only on the data for the marker you are viewing. Anthropic processes this data to provide the service and does not use it to train its models on our account.
The original file you upload, or the text you paste, is kept only until you save the extracted results, then deleted. If you don't save them, it is deleted automatically within two days. We keep the structured results, not the raw document. Extraction is automated and can make mistakes, so the app asks you to review extracted values before they are saved.
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that operate the app on our behalf:
Bearing can read health metrics from your phone’s health store — Apple Health on iOS, Health Connect on Android. Connecting either is optional, and Bearing works without it.
If you connect one, Bearing reads the metrics listed above read-only and only with your permission. You can revoke that permission at any time: on iOS in the app (Settings → Apple Health) or in the iOS Health app; on Android in the app or in the Health Connect app, under App permissions.
The same commitments apply to both, in line with Apple’s and Google’s requirements:
We keep your data while your account is active. You are in control of removing it:
Deleting your account removes your data from our database, file storage and login immediately. Records held by our service providers (analytics events, crash reports, subscription records and email delivery logs) are deleted on those providers' own retention schedules.
If you can't open the app, you can request deletion here.
We use encrypted connections (TLS) in transit and Firebase's security rules so that each account can access only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Bearing is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can export or delete your data directly in the app, or contact us at support@heybearing.com to exercise any of these rights. If you are in Washington State, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy describes your rights under the My Health My Data Act.
Bearing is not offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and is not intended for use there. If you use Bearing from one of these regions anyway, you can delete your data in the app at any time, or email support@heybearing.com and we will act on your request under the data protection law that applies to you.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
